Held in Ryuo Town, Shiga Prefecture, "Sky Lantern 2026 & Shiga Prefecture Town Development Future Expo" is a special one-day event consisting of the daytime "Future Expo" and nighttime "Sky Lanterns." During the day, there is a wealth of content for both children and adults to enjoy, starting with the "Shiga Local Marche" featuring Shiga specialty products, local gourmet food, experiences, and workshops, as well as working vehicles displays, sports experiences, hands-on interactions with micro pigs, reptiles, and insects, and traditional festival game booths. Through Shiga's food, community, sports, working vehicles, and living creatures, the event aims to give children opportunities to encounter local charms and future occupations to think about their own futures. At night, approximately 500 lanterns inscribed with visitors' dreams and wishes will fantastically illuminate the autumn night sky. Since lanterns can be retrieved and taken home after the event, they can also be enjoyed as keepsakes to preserve the memories of the day. This event brings together the community, businesses, and government to promote the charms of Shiga Prefecture and deliver an unforgettable experience to visitors.
