Sarumaru Shrine Autumn Grand Festival

At Sarumaru Shrine, grand festivals are held in spring (April 13) and autumn (September 13). During the Autumn Grand Festival, a grand lottery drawing that has continued since Meiji 2 (1869) is held. Sarumaru Shrine is dedicated to Sarumaru Dayu, one of the Thirty-Six Immortals of Poetry, and is located in a place associated with Sarumaru Dayu, who is known for the poem 'In the deep mountains, treading through the autumn leaves, when I hear the cry of the stag, how sorrowful autumn feels.' Around mid-November each year, the autumn leaves beautifully color the shrine grounds. In addition, since the early modern period, it has been deeply venerated as a deity for 'removing tumors' and 'preventing cancer,' and is revered as a guardian deity for household safety, good health, recovery from illness, traffic safety, warding off evil, academic success, and passing exams.
