About this event

Held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the municipal organization of Daito City, Osaka Prefecture, the "Daito Danjiri Grand Gathering" is a special event where approximately 30 danjiri floats and mikoshi portable shrines from all over the city gather together for the first time in 10 years. While the majority are large-sized floats known as the Kita-Kawachi style, some feature the intricate carvings characteristic of those seen in Osaka City and Kishiwada City, allowing visitors to compare the diverse float designs. The traditional musical accompaniment (ohayashi) preserved in each neighborhood also varies, with instrument rhythms and melodies changing from district to district, making comparing them a highlight as 30 floats assemble. The gorgeous decorative banners and elaborate wood carvings are also must-see features that will overwhelm visitors with stunning craftsmanship. On the day of the event, activities begin with the entrance of the floats, followed by ceremonies and performances by danjiri and mikoshi. In particular, a "Danjiri Pulling Experience" for general visitors is scheduled before the exit, offering a rare opportunity to actually pull the ropes and move a massive danjiri. A Daito City promotional booth and a concurrent riddle-solving event are also scheduled at the venue. The spectacle of around 30 danjiri floats lined up is a rare sight that occurs only about once a decade, allowing visitors to experience the powerful atmosphere with resonating drums, gongs, and the spirited shouts of the pullers.
