About this event
Hanatori Dance, a type of traditional sword dance handed down in Sakawa Town, Kochi Prefecture, is performed at two shrines: Shirakura Shrine and Mitsuki Shrine. Inherited since the Middle Ages, this dance strongly reflects the local culture. Particularly at Shirakura Shrine, the Hanatori Dance and dedication ritual take place from around 9:20 AM, followed by a rice cake scattering event at 11:00 AM. Warmly welcoming worshippers from inside and outside the region, it provides an opportunity to experience traditional performing arts. This dance has been passed down through the desire of the people of Sakawa to cherish festivals and value the traditional performing arts protected by their ancestors.
