About this event

Designated as an intangible cultural property by Hidaka Village, the Hanatori Tachi-odori dance originated when the castle lord of Tosa dedicated it to pray for lasting fortune in battle, tracing its history back to 1329. Around 1540, when an epidemic spread, villagers also began dancing it, and it has been handed down ever since. This dance is said to have started in the Edo period to pray for bountiful grain harvests; it is also called "Uchiwa Dance," with its main highlight being the dance performed while flashing large red round fans. It is also known as Tosa no Hanatori-odori and Tachi-odori.
