About this event

At Saruka Shrine in Hirakawa City, the 'Saruka Shrine Jugoya Grand Festival' will be held from the 14th to the 16th day of the 8th lunar month. This festival is known for traditional Shinto rituals, including the dedication of Tsugaru Kagura and the Prefectural Lion Dance Competition. In particular, street stalls will line the area on the 14th and 15th days of the 8th lunar month, allowing visitors to experience a nostalgic, old-fashioned atmosphere. During the festival period, the Saruka Park parking lot may charge a fee for safety. On 'Matsu Yoi' (the eve before Jugoya) on Thursday, September 24, the Shinto Ritual for Praising Divine Virtues will take place from 8:00 AM, the Yoimiya Eve Festival from 6:00 PM, and the Commemorative 80th Dedicatory Prefectural Lion Dance Competition from around 9:15 AM. Around noon, a dedicatory musical performance by the Aomori Mountain Climbing Music Preservation Society is also scheduled. On 'Jugoya' (Harvest Moon night) on Friday, September 25, the Annual Festival Ritual will be held from 11:00 AM, and the Moon Viewing Ritual from 6:30 PM, featuring the dedication of Tsugaru Kagura and distribution of special 'Tsukimamori' protective amulets. Additionally, a Jugoya Karaoke Contest from around 5:30 PM, a portable shrine procession by the Saruka Shrine Mikoshikai from around 7:00 PM, and a dedicatory performance by the Onoe Mountain Climbing Music Preservation Society at 8:00 PM are scheduled, with Jugoya shrine visits welcome at any time. On 'Izayoi' (the 16th night) on Saturday, September 26, the Divine Grace Thanksgiving Ritual will take place from 11:00 AM, followed at 1:00 PM by a comedy, folk song, popular song, and new dance show by Keisuke Tsugaru and his troupe, leading figures in the Tohoku and Hokkaido folk song world. Furthermore, at 7:00 PM, the dedication of the Izayoi Lion Dance will be performed by the Yawatazaki Lion Dance Preservation Society.
