Japanese name:毛越寺紅葉まつり
📅 Mon, Oct 26, 2026 - Sun, Nov 15, 2026
About this event
Motsuji Temple's Autumn Leaves Festival is typically held from late October to mid-November, when the elegant Pure Land garden is adorned with the autumn foliage of Japanese maples and other trees, creating an even more atmospheric scenery. The vibrant autumn colors gracing the temple grounds harmonize with a timeless history dating back to the Heian period. In particular, the reflection of the autumn leaves in Oizumigaike Pond, located at the center of the garden, is breathtakingly beautiful. The autumn foliage reflects on the water's surface, spreading out a picturesque scene like a painting. Furthermore, in the early morning and at dusk, the colors of the leaves shine even more vividly depending on the lighting conditions, allowing visitors to enjoy a mystical atmosphere. During the festival period, traditional events such as the Autumn Fujiwara Festival, cosplay events, and musical performances may also be held. During the Autumn Fujiwara Festival, the Ennen no Mai dance, a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, is performed beneath the beautiful autumn leaves, allowing visitors to fully enjoy a variety of autumn culture.
