Japanese name:中尊寺落慶900年記念「経蔵と金銀字経の美」
📅 Mon, Oct 19, 2026 - Sun, Nov 15, 2026
About this event
A special exhibition held to commemorate two major milestones: the 900th anniversary of Chuson-ji Temple's consecration (rakkei) and the 15th anniversary of "Hiraizumi" World Cultural Heritage inscription. In this exhibition, Volume 26 of the Abhidharmakosa-bhasya from the Gold and Silver Character Interleaved Issaikyo, which was taken from Chuson-ji during the Azuchi-Momoyama period and is returning home for the first time in 435 years, will be put on public display together with the same scriptures preserved at this temple. Furthermore, a color-restored replica created through the latest research findings and scientific analysis of the faint traces of colored patterns remaining on the sutra repository's nageshi (horizontal beam) will also be exhibited. It is a rare opportunity to experience the Heian elegance that the Oshu Fujiwara clan would have seen with their own eyes.
