The Miyagi Museum of Art Renewal Opening: The Era of Art - Unveiling the Entire Museum Collection

The Miyagi Museum of Art marks its 45th anniversary with a renewal opening commemorative exhibition, 'The Era of Art: Unveiling the Entire Museum Collection'. From approximately 700 works when it first opened to around 7,000 works today, this exhibition showcases carefully selected pieces displayed across the entire building. In Japanese art, it features works by artists associated with Miyagi and Tohoku, as well as artists who defined modern and contemporary art history. In international art, it centers on German Expressionism, including works by Kandinsky and Klee, presenting the expansive collection connecting the region to the world. Focusing on works produced since the term 'art' (bijutsu) was coined in the Meiji period, it conveys the appeal of creators who produced diverse artistic expressions amid modernization and globalization. During the exhibition period, some exhibits will be rotated, special guest works will be added in the second half, and a dedicated corner focusing on key artists of the modern Japanese art collection will be featured. In the newly renewed museum, visitors can fully enjoy reuniting with familiar masterpieces and discovering new charms.
