2026 SENDAI Pageant of Starlight

About this event

The winter tradition of the City of Trees Sendai, "SENDAI Pageant of Starlight," marks its 41st edition in 2026. This year's theme is "A New Step - Lights of the Future Created Together." Approximately 480,000 LED bulbs will light up 127 zelkova trees along Jozenji-dori. The magical space created by the tunnel of light warmly embraces visitors. The event runs for 24 days from December 4 (Fri) to December 27 (Sun). Illumination hours are from 18:00 to 21:00 Sunday through Thursday, and 18:00 to 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Specifically on December 24 (Thu), lights will stay lit until 22:00. The illumination stretch along Jozenji-dori runs from in front of Sendai Mitsukoshi to in front of Jozenji Garden Hills Geihinkan. To enjoy the event even more, cooperation is requested in preventing littering, taking trash home, and refraining from smoking while walking. As the venue and surrounding areas become extremely crowded, visitors are recommended to arrive using public transportation. The use of aerial photography equipment such as drones is prohibited.
