[Satoumi Satoyama WEEKs 2026] Togurakko Complete Oyster Experience Tour
Japanese name:【里海里山WEEKs2026】戸倉っこかき丸ごと体感ツアー
📅 Sun, Nov 8, 2026
About this event
Head out to the sea on a Hobie kayak if it's sunny, or enjoy crafting art with oyster shells if it rains—this is a tour to appreciate oysters to the fullest regardless of the weather. Learn techniques directly from fishermen, taste oysters you shuck yourself, and explore the rich cycle of the sea with all five senses. This program is part of the experiential offerings of "Satoumi Satoyama WEEKs 2026." The tour also offers an opportunity to travel by boat to an oyster aquaculture site and observe oyster harvesting. You can enjoy the blissful experience of tasting freshly harvested raw oysters on board, as well as a full oyster meal featuring steamed oysters, oyster rice balls, and "horoyoi oysters" (oysters pickled in sake lees) at a fisherman's hut. In addition, you can learn about the connection between the forest and the sea. Through observing tree felling in FSC-certified cedar forests and hands-on thinning with hand saws, participants will understand the public role of mountains and the mechanism by which forests nurture ocean bounty. You can also experience forestry-specific work such as building rest tents and making log candles. Touch upon the history of Minamisanriku, where people once lived through bartering, and experience the region's unique food culture.
