About this event
Held at the Aizumisato Town Folk Museum, 'Carve and Dye! Make Your Own Original Magatama' is a hands-on workshop where participants carve a square stone into a traditional curved bead (magatama) shape and finish it with their favorite color. Participants can gain a close-up understanding of magatama, ancient Japanese ornaments, through the process of filing stone and applying color. It is an intimate small-group experience where you can take home your finished custom magatama. Multiple sessions are held in fiscal 2026, scheduled for September 6 and November 15. Each session runs from 10:00 to 11:30, with a 400 yen participation fee and advance registration required. Applications open on August 1 for the September 6 session, and on October 15 for the November 15 session. Children in third grade of elementary school or younger must be accompanied by a guardian, and participants should bring a towel and wear clothes that can get dirty. This event offers great cultural depth and takes place on designated dates that welcome first-time participants.
