About this event

At the Wako City Library Main Building, the '25th Library Festival: Worlds Expanding from Books' will be held for two days on Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, 2026. This event features a wide variety of programs, including the two-day 'Photo Exhibition of Scenery in Wako City' and the 'Book Tree: My Recommended Picture Book'. On Saturday, October 24, a lecture will be held featuring picture book author Mitsuhiro Taya and Takahiro Fujita from the editorial department of Kaiseisha, discussing the behind-the-scenes creation of the picture book 'Benjo Soji' and the appeal of picture books. On Sunday, October 25, the conference room will host a full lineup of events for children and adults alike, including English picture book storytelling and English songs by 'Wonder Club', large picture book and folktale storytelling by 'Wako Picture Book and Storytelling Club', shadow puppet making experiences by 'Shadow Puppet Circle Penguin', and glove puppet and large picture book presentations by 'Himawari Club'. In addition, the Kids' Room will feature cloth picture book displays, 'Let's Make Flower Magnets!', picture book introductions by Tokyo Metro with coloring sheets and button badge giveaways. On the terrace, recycled library materials (books and CDs) distribution, magazine supplement lottery, flower bracelet gifts with a fishing game, and light snacks sales are planned. The lecture by the picture book author and editor will be a valuable opportunity to learn the behind-the-scenes of book making. With rich offerings including English activities for kids, crafts, and shadow puppetry, it is an event the whole family can enjoy all day long.
