About this event

Held for the first time by The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, the museum-wide event "MOMAT Autumn Days" is packed with programs to deepen the enjoyment of artistic autumn for both children and adults. The main highlight is the "Autumn Premium Collection," featuring three Important Cultural Properties by Kiyokata Kaburaki—"Tsukiji Akashi-cho," "Shintomi-cho," and "Hama-cho Riverside"—appearing in the collection exhibition for the first time in 7 years. Since their acquisition by the museum in 2019, this marks the first valuable opportunity to view them with regular collection exhibition admission. Furthermore, masterpieces suited for artistic autumn, such as Shunso Hishida's "Fallen Leaves in Autumn Woods" and Kaii Higashiyama's "Winter Flower," will also be exhibited. The collection exhibition "MOMAT Collection" runs from September 29 to January 11, 2027, with the three works by Kiyokata Kaburaki on display until November 15. In addition, a special collaboration with the November issue of "Fujin Gaho" titled "Introduction to Japanese Modern Art: Welcome to MOMAT!" will be held, featuring highlights of Japanese modern art representing the museum's collection, curator introductions, and coverage of the creation process behind the small feature exhibition "Amis de Paris: Japanese Artists in Paris." Another highlight is the "Dream Highlight Room" exhibition, displaying masterpieces selected by nine celebrities including Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado and Hiroshi Sugimoto. From October 8 to 16, "Family Day: Kodomo MAT" will be held starring children, offering participatory programs and the story-themed exhibit "Viewing Stories." During the three-day weekend from October 10 to 12, programs suitable for children visiting a museum for the first time will be offered, along with enhanced facilities such as expanded nursing and diaper-changing spaces, food trucks, and picnic mat rentals to ensure a comfortable stay. On October 9, an artist talk featuring Yoshitomo Nara, creator of the popular piece "Harmless Kitty," will be held. Starting October 23, food trucks from the restaurant "L'Astre Mikuni" will also appear, allowing visitors to enjoy delicious treats before or after viewing the art.
