The 45th Grand Shinjuku City Festival: Fureai Festa 2026

About this event

This is the core event of the citizen festival held throughout Shinjuku Ward, marking its 45th edition in 2026. It will be held at two venues: the Tokyo Metropolitan Toyama Park (Okubo Area) and Shinjuku Sports Center. Centered around booth exhibitions and stage performances by local resident groups and friendship cities, a wide range of programs for all generations will be featured, including hands-on sports corners and activities for parents and children. The festival's character is reflected in the diverse lineup of participating organizations, truly representing the diversity of Shinjuku, allowing visitors to spend an entire day moving between the park and the sports center. It will be held rain or shine, and will only be canceled in case of severe weather. The two main pillars are the booth exhibitions and stage performances by local resident organizations and friendship city groups. At Shinjuku Sports Center, hands-on sports corners will be set up along with events for parents and children to enjoy. The layout allows visitors to walk between the two venues of Toyama Park and the Sports Center, with the variety of participating groups directly reflecting the diversity of Shinjuku. It is Shinjuku Ward's largest citizen festival, long serving as a venue for resident interaction and showcasing the charm of the local community.
