Kyodo Eisa Festival

About this event

The Kyodo Eisa Festival is an event organized since 2012 by "Wako Seinenkai," an Eisa performance group based in Kyodo, Setagaya Ward, with the cooperation of the Kyodo Nodai-dori Shopping Street. In 2026, it marks its 15th anniversary. The festival's greatest feature is its emphasis on "Michijune," the original street-marching dance style of Eisa. In response to the challenge that Eisa groups on the mainland of Japan face in lacking "their own home regions," the Kyodo Eisa Festival gathers Eisa troupes active throughout the Kanto region to perform Michijune together. This provides a wonderful opportunity to fully experience the original charm of Eisa. Furthermore, launching this festival has deepened ties between Wako Seinenkai and the local shopping street merchants, leading to active community contributions such as festival preparations and disaster drills. Like the youth associations in Okinawa, they aim for community-rooted activities. On the day of the event, about 10 Eisa groups, including Wako Seinenkai, will perform powerful Eisa routines set along the Kyodo Nodai-dori Shopping Street.
