About this event

On August 23 (Sat), 2026, from 19:30 to 20:00, the 74th Uraga Port Festival Fireworks Display will be held around Uraga Port in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture. This fireworks display marks the grand finale of the Uraga Port Festival, launching 500 fireworks over approximately 30 minutes. The fireworks are launched from off the coast of Uraga, where Perry's Black Ships anchored at the end of the Edo period. Starting in the evening, large and mini lanterns are lit, enveloping the area in an emotional and atmospheric ambiance. Because the launch site is at the entrance of Uraga Port, the fireworks can be enjoyed up close from within Uraga Bay. The festival itself begins at 14:00 and features events such as food/game stalls and dedicated ceremonial dances. Originally started as a memorial service for the victims of the Great Kanto Earthquake, drowning victims, those who died of illness aboard repatriation ships, and war victims of the Uraga and Kamoi districts, it has become a customary fireworks display during the Obon season. Access to the venue is convenient—a 15-minute walk from Keikyu Uraga Station, or a short walk after getting off at the Konyacho bus stop—though no parking is available. Traffic restrictions will also be in effect on the day.
