Yugawara Onsen Manyo Bamboo Lanterns

About this event

This is a mystical bamboo lantern illumination event inspired by the natural beauty of Yugawara Onsen—deeply connected to the Manyoshu poetry anthology—and the moonlight illuminating it. Spanning over approximately 1,300 years of time, it recreates the scenery that classical poets surely beheld, creating a romantic atmosphere across the hot spring town. At the venue, around 1,300 bamboo lanterns will be lit throughout the onsen area, spreading a magical ambiance. This event provides an opportunity to spend a special evening experiencing Yugawara's rich nature and history. The event will proceed in light rain, so it will be held even if it rains slightly. On the same day, the town walking event "Yutanpo" will also be held, allowing visitors to enjoy both together.
