About this event
Held at Daibutsu-ji Temple in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, the 'Takaoka Daibutsu Festival' is an autumn festival celebrated in front of the Takaoka Daibutsu, one of Japan's Three Great Buddha statues. The festival's biggest highlight is the once-a-year 'Omifuki' (statue wiping ceremony), in which people clad in white robes wipe and clean the Great Buddha statue. In addition, traffic safety prayers and lantern decorations are held, making it a beloved traditional event rooted in the community. The festival is held all day at Daibutsu-ji Temple. Admission is free, and access details should be checked on the official website. For inquiries, contact 0766-23-9156.
