About this event

The "2026 Sabae Monzen Festival," held in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, is an event staged in the area around Sabae Station where traditional streetscapes still remain. This district once flourished as a temple gate town (monzen-machi) of the Manabe clan, lords of the Sabae Domain. Manabe Akikatsu, the 7th lord of the Echizen-Sabae Domain, was a heavyweight appointed as a senior councillor (Roju) in the shogunate during the late Edo period, known historically as the "Blue Ogre of Manabe" alongside the "Red Ogre of Ii." With this historical background as its backdrop, the event features a variety of planned activities. Excitement is expected to sweep across the entire region, featuring tie-ups with Megane Fes via shuttle buses and the simultaneous hosting of the "Sabae Yasshiki Festival" on the same day. Detailed information regarding events and vendors will be announced continuously.
