Culture City of East Asia 2026 Matsumoto - Artistic Director Sui Kurata Project: "Body and Music ~Karada to Ongaku~"

Set against the backdrop of the National Treasure Matsumoto Castle at night, a luxurious session of body and music woven together by top artists from Japan, China, and South Korea will be held. "Body and Music" is a popular performance project directed by Sui Kurata, Artistic Director of Matsumoto Performing Arts Centre, where dancers and musicians team up to harmonize "body" and "music" in special spaces outside the theater. For this Culture City of East Asia special edition, Kim Sung-yong, who served as Artistic Director of the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company, is invited as a guest artist. Against the backdrop of Matsumoto Castle at twilight, artists from Japan, China, and South Korea will deliver a luxurious session. The performance consists of two parts: Part 1 is a session by Sui Kurata (dance) and Airagong (music). Airagong, a musician from Inner Mongolia, China, takes on the challenge of resonating with the body using the traditional throat singing "Khoomei" and the morin khuur (horsehead fiddle). Part 2 is a session by Kim Sung-yong (dance) and Marihiko Hara (music). World-renowned musician Marihiko Hara provides the music, against whose sophisticated soundscape Kim Sung-yong will deliver an overwhelming physical expression. This is a performance where you can experience with your entire body a beautiful collaboration savored while feeling the autumn night breeze.
