About this event

As a host region for the 'Shinshu Working Holiday' implemented by Nagano Prefecture, Tomi City, Nagano Prefecture will hold a 7-day, 6-night stay program from Thursday, September 17 to Wednesday, September 23, 2026, to experience local work and lifestyle. Unlike sightseeing, this program allows participants to experience work and living while staying in the local community. Tomi City enjoys a high rate of clear weather and is an area where grape cultivation and winemaking thrive, with 15 wineries in the city. In this program, participants will experience harvesting and maintenance work for grapes and Italian cherry tomatoes at 'Ogihara Farm', stay in Unno-juku, which flourished as a post town on the Hokkoku Kaido, and support sales and service operations at a cafe operated by 'Unno-juku Marugoto', a facility utilizing traditional folk houses. On Monday, September 21, an exchange gathering centered around seasonal local ingredients is also scheduled. Through interaction with local residents, the content allows participants to more concretely picture agriculture, local living, and life after relocating. By working together with local people in a town where vineyards spread out, and experiencing 'staying as if living there' in Unno-juku dating back to the Edo period, participants can gain opportunities to learn about various jobs in Tomi City by touching not only farm work but also work welcoming visitors to the region. Valuing not only short-term work experiences but also time to connect with local people, this program is ideal for those considering migration or dual-residence life, those interested in living with agriculture, and those who want to engage with the region in a way different from tourism.
