About this event
Held via the Karuizawa Town Official Website, the "Reiwa 8 Mount Asama Volcano School" is an event aimed at deepening interest in the eruptive history of Mount Asama and volcanic disaster prevention. Standing at an elevation of 2,568 meters, the active volcano Mount Asama shows majestic views across the four seasons as a symbol of Karuizawa. In connection with "Volcano Disaster Prevention Day" on August 26, 1911 (Meiji 44), this school offers an opportunity to learn about Mount Asama's eruptive activity and visit historical sites related to it. Professor Shinya Yasui from the Nihon University College of Humanities and Sciences has been invited as the lecturer, offering a valuable opportunity to observe Mount Asama from various angles and trace its eruptive history. On the day of the event, starting from the Karuizawa Town Central Community Center, a field study tour will visit Onioshidashi Park, Mount Asama Lava Tree Molds, Kanbara Kannon-do Temple, and Tsumagoi Local History Museum. Eligible participants are junior high school students and older, with a capacity of 20 participants (first-come, first-served basis). Participation is free, but participants must cover entrance fees for paid facilities visited during the training. Participants must bring their own necessary items such as lunch and rain gear. The itinerary may change due to rain or other conditions. Applications open at 8:30 AM on Monday, August 3.
