Anami Shrine Annual Festival
Japanese name:飽波神社例祭
📅 Sat, Oct 3, 2026 - Sun, Oct 4, 2026
About this event
An autumn annual festival will be held at Anami Shrine, cherished locally as the oldest shrine in the Shida Plain. Held at a historic shrine said to have been founded in 318 (the 6th year of Emperor Nintoku's reign), this festival is characterized by the coexistence of a solemn atmosphere and lively vibrancy. On the first day, the annual ritual will be held from 10:00 AM, followed by the dedication of the Urayasu dance, and from 1:00 PM, a portable shrine carried by the association will parade through the streets. On the second day, a mikoshi procession (Togyo) will be conducted, departing the shrine at 8:50 AM and returning (Kango) to the shrine at 4:40 PM. Unlike the Grand Festival held once every three years (next scheduled for 2028), the annual festival offers many highlights, such as the mikoshi procession, warrior parade, and Urayasu dance, allowing visitors to experience traditional culture. The festival is free to view.
