About this event

The 'Mid-Autumn Moon Festival' originates from the custom of admiring the full moon on August 15th of the lunar calendar, which marks time by the phases of the moon. It is said that this custom was introduced from China to the Japanese imperial court around the 10th century and spread among the common people during the Edo period. In 2026, the harvest moon falls on September 25th, and in China, it is celebrated as the 'Mid-Autumn Festival' (Zhongqiu Jie), one of the most vibrant seasonal festivals alongside the Lunar New Year (Spring Festival). It is also called the 'Reunion Festival' (Tuanyuan Jie), a day when family and friends gather, share drinks, celebrate happiness, and enjoy the same moment while thinking of loved ones far away. Despite the rain, many people attended last year's 'Mid-Autumn Moon Festival Osaka 2025.' The executive committee is currently preparing to make this year's festival even more enjoyable for everyone. Despite various difficulties, Japan and China are eternal neighbors, and cultural, economic, and interpersonal exchanges between the Kansai region and China will surely flourish and deepen even further in the future. Drawing on past experience, together with Japanese residents in the Kansai region and overseas Chinese friends, we will enjoy Chinese-centered art and aim for an event centered on cultural exchange under the philosophy of 'interacting to build friendship and achieving harmony together.' The executive committee wishes to expand the circle of Japan-China friendship in Kansai at the grassroots level, contribute to the promotion of cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and China, and hopes for lasting friendship between both nations. As an outdoor Japan-China friendship event, various food stalls and stage performances are planned.
