Japanese name:第31回全国金魚すくい選手権大会

About this event
Held in Yamatokoriyama, known as the "castle town where goldfish swim as symbols of peace", this national tournament determines Japan's best goldfish scooper. Continuing since 1995 (Heisei 7), this competition has become established as a summer tradition of Yamatokoriyama City, bringing together many goldfish scooping masters every year. The competition takes place in an aquarium measuring 136 centimeters in length, 65 centimeters in width, and 23 centimeters in depth, with approximately 1,000 wakin goldfish measuring about 4 centimeters; participants compete based on the number of fish scooped into a bowl in 3 minutes until a single poi paper scooper per person tears. Anyone elementary school age or older can participate, making it recommended for those confident in their skills as well as anyone who wants to enjoy goldfish scooping. This year, commemorating the broadcast of the NHK Taiga Drama "Toyotomi Brothers!" and Toyotomi Hidenaga who served as lord of Koriyama Castle, the new "Hidenaga-san Cup" will be established for pairs of two people of elementary school age or older who are close like siblings. Contestants who won through the Nara Prefecture preliminaries will aim for the top of the nation.
