About this event
The kagura workshop that was very popular last year is confirmed to be held again this year! This time, participants will experience the 'Miyato-ryu' kagura, which preserves a unique school exclusive to Taketa across the nation. In addition to explanations about costumes and history, all participants will dance together the basic dance of Miyato kagura, 'Sanjin'. Centered on the fundamental movements of kagura, this is an opportunity to discover the profound charm of kagura—which may look familiar yet is little understood in detail—from a fresh perspective. Taketa's unique 'Miyato-ryu' kagura is considered the oldest established among the kagura styles in the Ono River basin, and is a valuable tradition that reenacts programs found in documents from 1719 and continues to preserve the appearance and dances of kagura from that era. In March 1993, it was designated as an Oita Prefecture Designated Intangible Folk Cultural Property. Anyone can participate, and preschool children can join with a guardian.
