Held in the Iriya district of Minamisanriku Town, Miyagi Prefecture, the Hikoro no Sato Autumn Festival is an autumn harvest festival where visitors can enjoy the rich local bounty. Known as the birthplace of sericulture in the Date clan domain, this region offers a variety of local specialty dishes made with abundant local ingredients. Fresh vegetables harvested that morning will also be plentifully available. The highlights of the event are the serving of freshly pounded mochi (rice cakes) and the annual, highly popular mochi-throwing event (mochimaki). In addition, traditional performing arts and dances passed down through generations in the Iriya district will be performed, allowing visitors to experience the local culture. It is a heartwarming festival combining autumn delicacies and traditional performing arts.
