The "Higashi Honganji Bon Dance" is a classic summer tradition held on the grounds of Higashi Honganji Temple in Nishi-Asakusa, Taito Ward, Tokyo. In 2026, it will take place over two days from Wednesday, August 19 to Thursday, August 20. It is an event where you can fully savor the distinctive atmosphere of a summer night, dancing around the yagura scaffold surrounded by lantern lights and the sound of taiko drums. An appearance by the Renjiro Aso Band is also scheduled for August 19, making for a lively and glamorous occasion. The Higashi Honganji grounds offer convenient access, being about a 5-minute walk from Tawaramachi Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, and easily accessible from Asakusa and Ueno.
