About this event
Bringing an end to summer in Asakusa, the '41st Asakusa Samba Carnival Parade Contest' is a major event that has been supported and developed by the local people of Asakusa since its inception in 1981. Modeled after the carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the passionate performances of participating teams boast a level of quality celebrated as the largest carnival in the Northern Hemisphere. Powerful performances by bateria (percussion) teams, dynamic dancing by dancers, inspiring songs, and gorgeously decorated 'allegoria' (parade floats) resonate samba rhythms throughout the streets of Asakusa. Attracting around 500,000 visitors every year, it is a festival coloring Asakusa's summer where you can directly feel the passion of samba.
