Special Exhibition: "Cornerstones of Peace 2026 – War and the Daily Lives of Local People"

In response to Ritto City's "Heart-Connecting Hometown Ritto" Peace City Declaration, the Ritto Museum of History and Folklore has held the "Cornerstones of Peace" exhibition since its opening, reflecting on peace from a local perspective. In fiscal year 2026, the exhibition explores in depth how the wartime mobilization system became established in the Ritto area during the expansion of Japan's wars—from the First Sino-Japanese and Russo-Japanese Wars to the Asian-Pacific War—and how it affected the lives and mindsets of the local people. While traditionally held in the summer, this year's exhibition takes place in autumn, presenting scenes of wartime autumn life as well as conditions in the autumn of 1945 immediately following the end of the war. Through this exhibition, visitors can concretely learn about the impact of war on local communities and everyday life, providing an opportunity to reflect anew on the preciousness of peace.
