Maibara Cat Exhibition
Japanese name:米原ネコ展
📅 Thu, Oct 1, 2026 - Sat, Oct 31, 2026
About this event
This special exhibition brings together cat-themed artworks created by Maibara-based creators at Kyukozan Seigan-ji Temple. Five artist groups will express cats through various media, including watercolors, paper cutouts (kirie), and woodworking. During the exhibition period, Seigan-ji Temple's original cat-themed goshuin (temple stamp) will also be distributed. On October 11, watercolor and paper-cutting workshops led by participating artists will be held at Maibara City Hall. A portion of the exhibited works will be featured as gift items for Maibara City's hometown tax donation (furusato nozei) program. Featuring a diverse range of cat-themed art, the exhibition captivates visiting guests. The delicate touch of watercolors, innovative cutout paper art, and warm woodworking textures highlight each artist's individuality, capturing the charm and mystery of cats from multiple angles. Moreover, Seigan-ji Temple's exclusive cat goshuin provides a special memento unique to this exhibition. In the workshops, participants can enjoy a valuable hands-on experience crafting their own cat art under direct guidance from professional artists. Offering select artworks as hometown tax gifts represents a unique initiative combining support for the regional economy with the promotion of local art.
