About this event
Originating in the mid-Edo period and boasting roughly 300 years of history and tradition, the Kishiwada Danjiri Festival is a quintessential autumn festival representing Osaka. The 'yarimawashi,' where danjiri floats weighing over 4 tons make sharp right-angle turns while running at full speed, overwhelms spectators with its sheer intensity. The 'hikidashi' held at 6:00 AM on Yoimiya, when the danjiri begin moving all at once in the early dawn light, is a goosebump-inducing moment. The festival takes place in the Kishiwada and Haruki areas, with the nearest stations being Nankai Main Line Kishiwada Station, Takojizo Station, and Haruki Station. Paid spectator seats are also available and recommended for first-time visitors. In the surrounding area, visitors can enjoy Kishiwada Castle as well as local soul foods such as kasu udon and Senshu water eggplant (mizunasu).
