About this event
A "Forestry Hiking" event will be held, allowing participants to walk through the mountains in autumn while learning about forests and trees. This hiking tour is part of a year-round initiative to connect with mountains, trees, and forestry, which also includes cutting down mountain trees in winter and peeling bark in spring. Participants will walk through the forest around Dodaira Observatory in Tokigawa Town, Saitama Prefecture, while listening to foresters explain the differences between natural and planted forests, silviculture, and timber felling. Saitama has surprisingly abundant usable forestland, and using local timber makes sense from both an energy and a local economic perspective. It is based on the idea that home building begins with understanding local forestry. From this location, visitors can view all the way across Tokyo Bay to the Boso Peninsula when the weather is clear. A bento lunch option is also available for the event.
