About this event
Commemorating the 400th anniversary of the founding of Unno-juku post town, the "Unno-juku Fureai Festival" is scheduled to be held on Sunday, November 1, 2026. The eve-of-festival event will take place on Saturday, October 31. Originating in 1990 (Heisei 2) as the "Unno-juku Hoto Festival," this festival developed from a gathering where local residents served homemade hoto noodles. Today, renamed the "Unno-juku Fureai Festival" and expanded in scale, it has become a popular event attracting many visitors from both inside and outside the city and prefecture. On a special stage in front of the main hall of Shiratori Shrine, a "Urayasu no Mai" dance performed by selected local elementary school students will be presented, and a "Period Costume Procession" by volunteers dressed in costumes ranging from the Edo period to the Showa period will parade along the highway. Numerous stalls will also line the grounds of Shiratori Shrine and along the street, bustling with large crowds of tourists. As this year marks the special 400th anniversary of the post town's establishment, various special events such as commemorative lectures and the eve-of-festival event are planned. Festival details are available on the special page of the official website.
